LinkedIn is looking for a Principal Staff Software Engineer to provide thought leadership for the engineering and operations organization. This role will build products and services by bringing broad engineering knowledge to improve LinkedIn design, code and test software environments.

You will work on a small team with global impact. You will be expected to hold yourself and your peers to a high standard, delivering fast and maintainable code that puts our members first. As an engineering leader, your mastery of the web platform will help you identify high-leverage projects that help other engineers to move faster and build higher.

An ideal candidate will know how to pair their engineering experience with leadership and communication skills to help them build cross-team consensus, level up their peers, and meaningfully advance the state of the art of web development.


  • Build and ship software at scale to deliver impact
  • Drive architectural decisions and implementation across the engineering organization
  • Lead cross team/cross functional discussions and drive alignment on product/technology strategy
  • Establish a culture that values diverse viewpoints while navigating complex decisions
  • Define the bar for quality and efficiency of software systems while balancing business impact, operational impact and cost benefits of design and architectural choices
  • Act as the primary domain expert to influence technology choices
  • Lead by example to build a culture of craftsmanship and innovation

Basic Qualifications: 

  • BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • 7+ years’ experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions with at least 5 years of experience in a technical leadership position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of relevant work experience, including 5+ years of building web applications or related infrastructure.
  • BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience working collaboratively with open source communities, browser vendors or standards bodies.
  • Familiarity with compiler architecture and design.
  • Interest in systems programming with languages like C, C++ or Rust and low-level web platform APIs such as WebAssembly, WebGL and WebCL.
  • Experience creating and executing cross-organization, multi-year technical roadmaps.
