About the job

At Google, our philosophy is build it, break it and then rebuild it better. That thinking is at the core of how we approach testing at Google. Unlike roles with similar names at the other companies, Test Engineers at Google aren't manual testers -- you write scripts to automate testing and create tools so developers can test their own code. As a Test Engineer, you navigate Google's massive codebase, identify weak spots and constantly design better and creative ways to break software and identify potential problems. You'll have a huge impact on the quality of Google's growing suite of products and services.

V8 is the JavaScript engine at the core of Chrome, Node.js, and many other JavaScript-based products. It continuously adds new language features and optimizes performance on the cutting edge of virtual machine technology. V8 also implements WebAssembly, a low-level execution environment to bring high-performance code to the Web.

The Infrastructure team builds test automation for the V8 team and provides test coverage for the product, ensuring V8's quality with respect to correctness, security, and performance. As part of Chrome and Node.js, providing sufficient test coverage for V8 is a complex task.

At Google, our users come first, and the Systems Infrastructure team is at the heart of that promise. We build the technologies that transform the way we think about doing business. Whether working on our cloud systems, researching the latest in computer technology or keeping Google's internal systems humming, Googlers and users alike rely on us to keep things running. We're back-end experts: protecting your privacy and ensuring your security.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement testing for WebAssembly and its toolchain.
  • Support V8 team members in testing new features and extending the test coverage for existing features.
  • Improve testability of hard-to-test components, sometimes involving concurrency.
  • Curate existing correctness and performance tests. Importing and adapting third-party test suites.
  • Turn real-world use cases into automated test scenarios.

At Google, we don’t just accept difference—we celebrate it, we support it, and we thrive on it for the benefit of our employees, our products and our community.
